My First Game Dev Jounrey: Week 5

This week has been a little slower than I hoped,  I didn’t quite hit all the targets I set for myself,  but progress is still progress! I’ve been continuing with my Wwise journey, working through the Wwise 101 tutorials, which have been so insightful and genuinely helpful.

I’ve also started working on the script for my game. From the very beginning, I had a strong vision of the kind of story I wanted to tell, but this week I began fleshing out the narrative and developing the characters in more depth.

The game will be first-person, and you’ll be joined by a companion, a close friend, who helps you uncover clues and solve riddles throughout the journey.

If you’ve seen my earlier posts, you might remember that the game is set in an underground cave, a place you’ve been transported to without warning or understanding how you got there. Together with your friend, you’ll need to piece together runes, uncover riddles, and activate portals to move forward.

I always love creating Pinterest boards as part of my creative process, they really help me stay focused on the visual mood and tone I want to achieve. I’m a very visual learner, so gathering imagery that reflects the world I’m trying to build keeps me grounded and inspired.

Here’s a peek at my Pinterest board for this project.

Creative writing is something I’ve always loved, and working on this script has reminded me just how much joy it brings me (even if I rely heavily on spellcheck!). It’s actually one of my goals to publish something one day, so this feels like a step in that direction.

On the audio side, I’ve been slowly going through the recordings I made last week on my MixPre setup, editing, cleaning, and adding them to my growing sound library. It’s been a time-consuming process, but it’s so satisfying hearing everything come together piece by piece.

I’m also planning to send over a character brief to my friend, who’s kindly agreed to do some voice-over work for the game. There’s no set date yet, but I’m really excited to start that collaboration when the time’s right.

I’ve never edited dialogue before, so that’ll be another new challenge for me, but one I’m definitely looking forward to tackling.

Even though I haven’t achieved everything I wanted to this week, I can see that I’m still moving forward, slowly but surely, and that’s what matters.
